How to Create Software Restrictions (Filters) for Your Workspace

Step-by-step guide for workspace administrators to create software filters that customize which applications users can access.

Overview

Software restrictions (also called software filters) allow workspace administrators to customize which applications users can access when creating jobs. By default, users see Rescale's entire catalog of over 1,000 software applications, but your organization may only need a specific subset.

Prerequisites: You must have workspace administrator permissions to create and manage software restrictions.

Accessing Software Restrictions

Software restrictions can only be applied at the workspace level (except when your organization has only one workspace).

  1. Navigate to the upper left corner of the platform where the Rescale logo is located

  2. Hover over Workspace Admin

  3. Click on the workspace name where you want to apply the software filter

Once in the Administration Portal:

  1. Go to the top menu and select Policies → Software Restrictions

Creating Your Software Filter

In the Software Restrictions interface, you can customize which applications your users will see:

  1. Browse or search for applications: Scroll through the list or use the application search function to find specific software

  2. Select applications: Choose the software applications your organization uses

  3. Choose versions: For each selected application, you can enable all versions or select specific versions only

  4. Add multiple applications: Repeat the process to add as many applications as needed

  5. Save your changes: Click Update Software Restrictions when you're finished

Confirming Your Changes

After clicking Update Software Restrictions:

  • A loading icon will appear briefly at the top of the interface

  • You'll see a confirmation message when the update is complete

User Experience After Filter Implementation

Once your software filter is active, users creating new jobs will only see the authorized software applications you've selected, creating a streamlined experience tailored to your organization's needs.
